I just wanna answer my cell phone...

...while riding my LT - that's all!

Don't want no music.

Don't want no radar alert.

Don't want no intercom.

Don't want no CB.

I have no choice but to take business calls all day long and weekends, but I refuse to give up riding to sit by a phone. I know this totally sucks, but the payback for doing this 10 months out of the year is that I take 2 months off without worrying about answering the phone right away. During this time voice mail works just fine.

I've got custom molded in ear speakers. I can set the cell phone to auto answer after two rings. Now how do I talk without spending $1,000.00 (or more) for a communications set up that is WAY overkill for my needs?

I need a GHETTO phone! ...and Radio Shack is just around the corner!
Ari? Anyone.... Anyone??

Hi Ron,

please accept my sympathy. I felt just the same with the BMW cupholder. 125 euros (140 USD) was just ridiculous, so I developed my own with 5 USD...

Now, about the cell phone to helmet. The real cheapo would be just the earplug + microphone combo which nowadays are mandatory over here as car drivers must have both their hands on the wheel while talking on the cell phone. The bad thing with these is the fact that the microphone (not designed for motorcycle use) picks so much wind + engine noise that the conversation does not work. Also the one ear speaker can be a pain...

I think you need some kind of intercom system, whether you want it or not. If you want to buy good and cheap, you probably end up buying two. I used to have Autocom Pro 7 and I changed it to Baehr (not too clever when thinking back now) So if I would now have the same needs as you I would look very closely at the Autocom products as I am pretty sure in their less expesive line there is a product that is way under 1000 USD (more like 1/3) and still does the job you are asking for in style and quality.

Regards

For $229, the IntaRide RP1 'Solo' is a no-brainer, IMHO. My customers don't even know that I'm on my bike. The fact that I have GPS voice commands, rider to pillion, iPod integration, and FRS w/ PTT are also nice features. It's not a Baehr, but at less than $250, it's a great value!

Ron, I can call you from my GT Monday during my ride to South Indiana if you'd like. So you can hear the quality firsthand. Let me know...

The Autocom Pro Avi kit 300 sells for $379 at Top Gear and this includes the riders headset, one extension lead, a cell phone lead, a music lead, and a bike fit kit.

You can order the extension lead that your custom molded earplugs will go into. If you are at ToTR, you can see my setup. And I just sent my Motorola RAZR/SLVR interface cable to Randy Prade.

Scala Rider

Ron,

Check out this option... seems to get good reviews, and although its definitely not ghetto, it can be bought for just over 100 bones! There have been several posts here on it too. It may require a phone upgrade (with bluetooth), but I'm good there with my blackberry.

Hey, I think I just talked myself into it...:p

EDIT:: Just ordered here for $89.95 w/free ground :yeah: ... will post a review after use.

That would be really sweet, but I wear a full face helmet and dual custom molded monitor earplugs....., now if it only came with a thin mike and jack to plug in the monitors. :(

Does not look like the technology is there just yet. I'm having trouble deciding between Autocom and Intaride. They both look great and around $225.00

It will work on a full face helmet

call them, they may have an option to plug in your earplugs.

Another vote for the Cardo Scala

The Cardo Scala Unit is great.

I use it all the time. Just rode 4 days in the Black Hills of SD and took every call that came in with not one person knowing that I wasn't on my normal Bluetooth headset. I even participated in a 90 minute conference call with an attorney in FL and my ofifice in DC and I was riding Spearfish canyon! Just dropped service one time -- but that was a Sprint issue. Kind of sad that I had to do it, but, like was said above, the payback was taking the trip when otherwise I would not have been able to do so.

I use it on both my full face (Symax) and 3/4 helmets and it works well on both. It's a snap to install and move.

As a bonus, I have iGuidance navigation on my Pocket PC (mounted on the handlebar with a Hoon mount) and if I press the call accept button on the Cardo Scala and leave the connection open, I hear all the commands in my ear. Pretty cool!

I paid $89 for mine through Overstock.com last winter.

Baehr makes several other flavors of on-board communication systems. You don't have to buy the $1200 K1200LT-specific unit if all you need is cell phone integration

Starcom 1 / Bluetooth Phone

I use the Starcom 1 Advanced and the Bluetooth Phone adapter, works great, you just get on the bike with your phone in your pocket. It does have a lot of other features but I think it handles the phone better than any of the other ones that I have tried.

And make it solar powered so you don't have to plug your helmet in to a recharger, or swap the batteries all the time.

Best bluetooth setups for motorcycles - Hands Free

:)
Ok, this is an answer that I replied to on another subject and should have posted as a new thread.

First caveat.
You need a sound system on your motorcycle first or the first solution I tried is your best bet. BMW sells them (you can save $50 by shopping the internet for the same item) and they do work. But, it assumes you don't have a sound system installed and don't already have speakers and microphones in your helmet. I bought the BMW approved (as in they sell them in their stores) solution and the speaker, while thin, was still too thick for my helmet, plus it covered one of the existing speakers in the helmet. Wrong one for me. As I said, if you don't have a comm system installed, this is one is great.

Here's the link to the one that I now have and that truly integrates into my speaker system, uses the speakers and microphone already in my helmet, works fine even with my open face at speeds above 70mph. It is the Motorola HF-820. http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Product....asp?Item=HF820
What the literature does not say is that there is a place to plug in one of the BMW cables that connects a cell phone to your VOICE II system, or that connects your cell phone to any installed sound system that has a cell phone input. I even called one supplier and the lady told me that it DIDN'T have a place to plug in the cable. The people at Cyclegadgets know their business. I called them and they assured me there is a place to plug it in and indeed, there is. I already had the cable from BMW, so I plugged it in, "bonded" my cell phone to it and now it is indispensable to me. It attaches to my tank bag with the included sun visor clamp so that it is accessible to me to punch the one button on it to activate the voice commands. I can call, receive calls, and best of all, if the phone rings while riding and listening to the radio, it mutes the radio and I hear the ring in my helmet. Can't say enough good things about it.:D

Effective, Simple & Inexpensive

I purchased an Iasus throat microphone with one ear bud speaker for around $40.00 about a year ago. Plugs into my Motorola flip phone and works great for the sole purpose of answering the phone while riding my LT. The throat microphone does not pick up any ambient noise what so ever.

The BAD part: I don't remember where I bought it.

The GOOD part: You can go here and track down a U.S. retailer. They also have a compatability area on their website to see if your phone works with their system, most phones do.
